History & Philosophy

A Century of Rudin

Beginning with Samuel Rudin and siblings in 1925, Rudin continues to be rooted in balancing innovation with responsibility. We believe in creating spaces that not only serve the needs of today, but also enrich communities, foster sustainability, and honor the legacy of New York City for generations to come.

Rudin Legacy

1884

The Rudin family’s New York story begins as Louis and Rachel Rudinsky immigrate from Belarus, settling on the Lower
East Side.

They establish a dry goods store on Chrystie Street, laying the foundation for what would become a multi-generational legacy in real estate.

1925

Samuel Rudin, Louis’s son, officially founds Rudin Management Company, developing the family’s first residential project at 1400 Benson Street in the Bronx. This marks the beginning of the Rudin family’s transformative impact on New York City's skyline and neighborhoods.

1945

After World War II, Samuel’s sons, Jack and Lewis, join the family business, leading its postwar expansion. Projects such as 300 East 57th Street, the first apartment building constructed in New York City after the war, position Rudin at the forefront of the city’s development.

1965

The Rudin family develops the iconic 345 Park Avenue, its office headquarters. This era cements Rudin as a leader in shaping Midtown Manhattan’s commercial real estate market.

1978

The third generation of the family, including Eric, Madeleine, Bill, and Beth, join the company and take on leadership roles. Under their guidance, the company completes key projects such as 560 Lexington Avenue, 40 East 52nd Street, and 1675 Broadway.

2005

The Rudin family commemorates a century of real estate ownership in New York City, reflecting on their enduring legacy and contributions to the city’s architectural and cultural landscape.

2017

In July 2017, Bill and Eric Rudin become co-chairmen of Rudin Management. Bill begins a three-year term as chairman of REBNY in 2018, while Eric is named chair of the Times Square Alliance board in the same year, furthering their civic and industry leadership.

2024

In 2024, Samantha Rudin Earls and Michael Rudin become Co-Chief Executive Officers, ushering in the fourth generation of Rudin family leadership. Neil Gupta is named President and Bill Rudin and Eric Rudin retain their titles as Co-Executive Chairman. This is historic as Samantha is Rudin’s first female CEO and Neil is the first non-family member to hold this title.

2025

In 2025, Rudin honors their centennial with a refreshed brand and a celebration commemorating their enduring legacy and the vision for the future.
